This beautifully renovated Provençal farmhouse manages to strike the perfect balance between the traditional and contemporary. The property is situated in a peaceful and private location, 20mins from St Tropez. The property consists of a 4 bedroom main house and separate 3 bedroom guest cottage. There is 1ha of land, which includes a vineyard, olive trees, summer kitchen, terrace and of course a beautiful swimming pool. The views from the house are spectacular.
The property is situated on a quiet road, just outside the village of La Garde-Freinet in the Var department of the Côte d'Azur. The current owners purchased the property from the French film director Luc Besson and have since completely renovated the property. The brief was to create and modern and comfortable home whilst keeping the traditional Provençal farmhouse style.
The main house features a typical Provençale-style open plan kitchen/dining/living room. The room has a large open fireplace and direct access to the outdoor terrace which overlooks the entire valley. Also on this level is the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (with free-standing copper bath tub). Next to the kitchen is a living room with fireplace and wine cellar, which leads to an underground well. Next to the living room is a drawing room with a staircase that leads up to two double bedrooms with a shared bathroom. On the upper level of the main house there’s an independent 1-bedroom apartment with its own terrace. All of the bedrooms in the main house overlook the terrace, pool and the hills beyond.
To the rear of the kitchen there’s a spiral staircase in a charming little tower, which leads to the lower level annexe. This self-contained annexe features three guest bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, as well as a utility and storage room.
The total plot size measures approximately 1 hectare and this consists of beautiful secluded gardens, olive tree plantation and a vineyard, which produces around 500 bottle of red wine per year. There is a large swimming pool, summer kitchen (with separate BBQ area pizza oven), pool house, winery room, herb garden and workshop.
The house is located in the hills just outside St Tropez, one of the most sought-after locations in the whole of France. The property is very private, situated at the end of a gated driveway on a quiet road just outside the delightful hilltop town of La Garde Freinet. The town was made famous by David Hockney, who came here to paint in the 1970’s and since then the village has attracted a host of other artists, which gives it a distinctly arty vibe. The cobbled streets are lined with ochre and peach houses, antique shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. At the top of the village are the ruins of a medieval fort, with views down on its jumble of terracotta roofs. The town is a nice contrast to the glamour of nearby St Tropez (which of course needs no introduction).
