Renovated last year, this lovely 2-bed cottage has a newly fitted kitchen, bathroom, central heating, a garage, outbuilding a private courtyard garden that would be a wonderful project for someone with green-fingers. There is also a good-sized veg garden just opposite the house and the the shops in L’Absie are just 2km away.
The house has a total of 90m2 habitable space. Here’s the layout:
Large 50m2 open plan living area with space for the fitted kitchen, dining area and sitting room with wood-burning stove
Utility room with central heating boiler
Stairs lead down to the cellar
Two large bedrooms
Dressing room (with potential to become a shower room)
There is a garage and a separate outbuilding. The private courtyard is a suntrap, currently a blank canvas, this area could be transformed with some interesting planting into a lovely area for al fresco dining and drinks. Just opposite the property there is an area of 800m2 that would be ideal as a veg garden.
The cottage is in the village of Scillé, just an easy 2km walk or bike ride from the shops, restaurants and cafés in L’Absie. L’Absie is a small market town that grew up around its’ mediaeval abbey, reputedly once a favourite place of worship of Eleanor of Aquitaine. The main square of the town is very attractive and this is where you’ll find the weekly farmers market. There is a good selection of shops for almost everything you’ll need the rest of the week as well as plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy.
The area is a great base for walking and cycling enthusiasts. Quiet country lanes wind through fields of sunflowers in the summer and the Forest of Absie is great for exploring. You can also find golf, horse-riding, fishing, swimming and sailing in the area.
If you fancy a day trip the beach is just an hour away, and the cosmopolitan, vibrant town of La Rochelle is not to be missed and Niort is also well worth a visit.
