Originally built in the 18th century and bow beautifully restored with careful attention to detail, the house is situated right in the centre of a lively village. The courtyard garden has a lovely terrace area and established planting that provides welcome shade in the summer.
The arrangement of rooms on the ground floor is very comfortable, with wide doors leading from kitchen to dining room and down a couple of steps to the sitting room. The kitchen is a fully equipped and modern. The sitting room is charming and has a a pretty fireplace. Lovely floor tiles and wooden beams across the ceilings feature throughout. There is also a laundry room that provides extra storage space.
On the first floor, a landing leads to the first bedroom that has a spacious dressing room. The second bedroom is also accessed via the landing, as is the beautifully appointed bathroom.
The house is in a central location in a popular village with a restaurant within walking distance. A wide range of shops, restaurants, cafés and amenities are within easy reach as the village is just 5km from the centre of Uzès.
The history of Uzès dates from Roman times. Just a short drive from the town is the astonishing Pont du Gard, a 1stC Roman aqueduct, listed as a UNESCO World heritage site. The town itself has cobbled streets, fine Renaissance mansions and a magnificent central square, the Place-aux-Herbes. The square is surrounded by limestone arches under which shops and restaurants spill out, all shaded by the established sycamore trees. There are two markets every week, one for fresh produce on a Wednesday and another more extensive market on a Saturday.
The square is often used for antique stalls, exhibitions, art shows and the annual truffle fair! Nîmes airport is 25km away and drive just a little further and you reach the Mediterranean coast, and makes a perfect day trip.
