Few properties manage to create such a dramatic sense of space and light. It should therefore come as no surprise that the owners (who built the property in 2009) are an architect and interior designer. The beautiful pool and far-reaching views will probably mean you don’t want to be anywhere else but, should you fancy a change of scene, the delightful market town of Martel is on the doorstep.
The main living area is on the first floor. The double-height ceiling, open-plan layout and panoramic views give the space real wow-factor.
There are four distinct areas on this floor. At the far end is the ultra modern kitchen, which leads into the dining area, with stunning views over the pool and surrounding countryside. This leads into the comfortable seating area, which has the wood-burner as the focal point. Beyond that is the outdoor eating terrace and BBQ.
There is also a double bedroom and bathroom on this floor. Above the kitchen is the mezzanine level, which can be used as an extra bedroom.
Oak stairs lead down to the other 3 double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, 2 of which are en suite.
On this level there are also several purpose-built storage areas for outdoor furniture, bikes, pool and garden equipment etc.
The house is built to modern building specifications with double-glazing, well insulated walls and foil roof insulation that keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter.
The plot is about half an acre. The garden is split across two levels, the main area being the swimming pool and large terrace. The pool is 10m x 5m and is heated.
On the lower level is the boules court and the covered table tennis area. To the front of the property is a large driveway with plenty of parking space. The garden is attractively landscaped using local stone and dotted with shrubs and wild orchids. Mature trees surround the property, offering privacy but without obscuring the views.
Martel (1.5km) hums with local life. Wander the narrow streets, past restaurants and shops, to reach the 'Place de la Halle', at the centre of which is the magnificent medieval wood framed market hall, still in use today. It is the true heart of the town, where many events take place during the summer. This lovely town also boasts a number of excellent eateries, from a wine bar offering a modern take on local products to two restaurants that appear in the Michelin guide.
Beyond Martel, the countryside is peppered with beautiful villages and places to explore. Enjoy a trip on the local steam train, canoeing on the River Dordogne (5km), and visiting the famous site of Rocamadour (21km). The interesting and pretty towns of Souillac, Sarlat-la-Canéda, Carennac and St-Céré should also feature on your list of places to visit.
