It has been an absolute pleasure to curate this map and I have to extend a huge thank you to our clients and colleagues whose wonderful food-related stories and fond memories I have so enjoyed collecting over the last few months. The map brings together recommendations from many travels across France, as well as a number of interesting finds uncovered through our own research.
The prospect of a long journey in France is always something I relish and the map is intended to offer an alternative to motorway service stations. Somewhere enjoyable to break the journey as you travel from A to B. However, some of the entries are so evocative and alluring, I find myself plotting a route that often requires a significant diversion, just so I can swing by and pay a visit to a top-tip recommendation.
For me, this potential for discovery is exactly what is so fantastic about France - rich history, cultural traditions, such a wide variety of regional delicacies and the ever changing landscape. There are just so many wonderful places to explore!
The map features restaurants, bistros, swim spots, lovely places for a picnic, as well as places that are simply near the motorway and a great place to take a break and have a leg-stretch. The map will be continually updated and members of the community will be able to offer feedback so that, hopefully, the map will be a reliable resource.
We hope to launch the map early next year and if you have any suggestions you would like to add, please do let us know. We’d be delighted to hear your recommendations.
